Family of Rev. WilliamA and Anne (Stephens) Noyes 1568-1622

William Noyes, son of Robert Noyes, was born probably at Cholderton, near Salisbury, Wiltshire, about 1568, died there in the spring of 1622 (estate inv. 30 Apr.); married about 1594 Anne Stephens, daughter of Nicholas Stephen of Burdrop Manor, born about 1575, buried at Cholderton 7 Mar. 1657-8, 82y, sister of Dorothy (Stephens) Parker, mother of the Rev. Robert Parker (see Wheeler, History of Stonington, Connecticut).
Noyes received his BA degree from University College Oxford 31 May 1592. In 1601 he was appointed rector at Cholderton, a post he held until 1621, shortly before his death. His widow was appointed administrix 28 May 1622.
Anne’s nephew Robert Parker, called "the father of non-conformists," went to Holland in exile, and later came to Massachusetts; he did not marry. Anne's will (18 Mar. 1655, 20 Apr. 1658) named her "two sons now in New England," and her sons-in-law Thomas Kent and Robert Reade, her executor.
Children Rev. William Noyes probably all by Ann, born at Cholderton:
- Ephraim, b. in 1596, bur. Cholderton 28 Oct. 1659, 69; m. Orchestro St. Mary 5 Nov. 1633 Parnell Brewer, who survived him; no ch. were named in his will.
- Rev. Nathan, b. in 1597, d. Salisbury, Wilts, 6 Sept. 1651, 54y; m. Mary ---- : 5 ch. BA Lincoln College, Oxford, 26 Oct. 1616; in 1621 succeeded his father as rector aat Cholderton.
- John, b. c1600, res. Newton, Wilts, in 1660; m. ---- ; one son.
- daughter; b. say 1604; m. Robert Read of East Cholderton, exec’r in 1655 of estate of Ann (Stephens) Noyes.
- Rev. James1, b. in 1608, d. Newbury MA 22 Oct. 1656, 48y; m. in England c1634 Sarah Brown, who d. Newbury 13 Sept. 1691, dau. of Joseph Brown of Southampton, Hants: 9 ch. named in will.
Graduate of Brasenose College, Oxford, in 1627;James came to Massachusetts in 1634, and served as pastor at Newbury MA and at Mystic CT (see Cotton Mather, Magnalia). His Newbury home is maintained as an historical site.
- daughter, b. say 1611; m. Thomas Kent of Over Wallop, Hants. Probably remained in England.
