The major source for the following information is a document provided to Eva Farrington Cary in July of 1938 by Colonel Robert Arthur titled Farrington Genealogy.
Serenus2 Farrington (Thomas1 Sewell Farrington), farmer, b Sept 30 1799, in that part of Winslow, Lincoln Cty., Me., which later became Waterville, Kennebec Cty., Me., d. Jan 31 1888, at Minneapolis, Minn., at the home of his son Richard3 Frank. He m'd Sept 1, 1822 at Vassalboro, Me. (his int. entered and publish Aug 18, 1822, show his name in the Vassalboro records as Sylvanus), Mary Richardson, b. Aug 13, 1800, at Norton, Mass. and d. June 4, 1889, at Owatonna, Minn.
They had children:
On Oct 22, 1822, Serenus2 Farrington bought from his father for $600 a parcel of land in Vassalboro, Kennebec Cty., Me., where he lived until after he sold the land on Sept 5, 1835, for $850 to Benjamin Worth Jr., of Augusta, Me. He removed with his father to Troy, Waldo Cty., Me., before 1840, and was still living there in 1850, after his father had removed to Windsor, Kennebec Cty., Me. At that time, his farm was valued at $1800, including implements and animals. His holdings consisted of 60 acres of improved land, 40 acres of unimproved land, 3 horses, 3 milk cows, 4 working oxen, 2 other cattle, 16 sheep, 2 swine, 39 bu. of wheat, 40 bu. of Indian corn, 100 bu. of oats, 48 lbs. of wool, 6 bu. of peas and beans, 100 bu. of Irish potatoes, 200 lbs. of butter, 50 lbs. of cheese, 16 tons of hay, 55 lbs. of beeswax and honey, and farming implements and homemade manufactures. This land had been purchsed by Thomas1 Sewall Farrington, at least in part, from Nathan Combs, of Troy, on March 2, 1838, and was transferred to Serenus2 in 1840. On Oct 9, 1850, Serenus2 sold his property to Noman Pratt and started for the west.
He, Serenus2, next appears at Green Lake, Green Lake Cty., Wisc., where on Aug 31, 1851, he bought a parcel of land from Daniel Staples. On Aug 7, 1855, he bought another piece of land from John K. Oliver, and on Sept 6, 1855 he bought land from John B. Seward. There were then a number of Farringtons in Green Lake Cty., Wisc., [named] as Lorenzo D., Perry, Harlow P., Eben, Emerson W., C.S. , Putman, Harvey P., and E.W., whose relationships to Serenus2 and to each other do not appear. It is possible that Putnam Farrington may have been the John Putnam Farrington who was born at Andover, Me., a son of John and Dolly (Adams) Farrington.
Serenus2 Farrington in 1857, removed to Otisco township, Waseca Cty., Minn., where he resided for many years. He later removed to Owatonna, Minn., where he acquired considerable property and where he resided until very shortly before his death. In Dec 1887 he and his wife went to Minneapolis, Minn., to spend the winter with their son, Richard3 Frank Farrington. On the evening of Jan 30, 1888, he was at the supper table in, apparently, his usual good health, but about midnight he was taken suddenly ill and expired in a few minutes. He was a member of the Baptist Church. By trade, he was a carpenter and joiner, but he taught school during the winter terms, teaching a total of 50 terms. At his death, he left 6 children, 17 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.
