Earliest ancestors in North America are John and Bridget (White) Meehan both born before 1800 in Ireland. The family immigrated to Cap Sante, Portneuf, Quebec, Canada and many of them on to the US in the late 1800s. Information about the descendents of John and Bridget has been well documented. Information on the Gilliduff O.Meighan line has little documentation that we have seen and has been reported by Frank Kane <fakcmkut@aol.com> who is moving back to County Donegal.

John and Bridget (White) Meehan and their children probably sailed on the Brig Union, Master Nicholson which sailed from Belfast June 19, 1822 and arrived in Quebec August 21, 1822. There were 138 passengers assigned to Coltman & Hale. The settlement was called Halesboro and located in Port Neuf, Quebec, Canada. The 1832 Census lists the household of John Meehan as having 11 people.
