Abraham3 Anderson Jr.

Abraham3 Anderson Jr. (Abraham2 John1) (b 18 June l758 d 3 Sept 1844) m'd 13 Apr 1788 Lucy Smith (b 24 Aug 1769 d 17 Apr 1844) dau of Rev. Peter and Elizabeth (Wendell) Smith. Both Abraham3 Jr. and his wife, Lucy, are b'd at the Anderson-Smith Cemetery, Windham.

Abraham3 Jr. was a farmer and lived on his father's homestead in the southern part of town. He was the last person born in "The Old Province Fort". He is also listed in the Index of Revolutionary War Veterans of Maine. He owned a large tract of land and mill privileges on Pleasant River, near the village of Windham.

At the death of Parson Smith (Rev. Peter T. Smith, father-in-law of Abraham3 Jr.) his properties were put up for "public vendue" to help settle his estate. Abraham3 Jr apparently was the highest bidder and became the new owner of his father-in-law's land, etc.

A few days later we find that Abraham3 Jr conveyed this property to his son Edward4 for the same price he had paid for it. We aren't sure if this included the Parson Smith House, but Edward4 soon took his bride there to live, as his grandfather, Rev. Peter T. Smith had done back in 1764. We bring up this story, (about the Parson Smith House) at this time, as our own direct line ancestor, Edward5 Augustus Anderson, later becomes involved with this same house and its family. The Parson Smith House is today a historic landmark maintained by the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, open to the public during the summer months, and well worth seeing, especially as a home connected with our own families. Jane8 Alice (Smith) Lefebvre, a great, great, great granddaughter to Abrabam3 Jr., and a contributer to this family history, has been very active in the preservation of the Parson Smith House and its articles of furniture.

From "Historical Gleamings", Maine Historical Genealogical Recorder, comes the following: "Burned, Aug 26 1794, two well filled barns of Abraham3 Anderson Jr., in Windham, were struck by lightning and consumed".
